SPINDEX 1-on-1 Challenges give players a new way to compete in verified rated matches outside traditional tournaments and leagues.
Available through the SPINDEX mobile app, the feature allows players to challenge another SPINDEX user, play a head-to-head match, and submit the result directly through the platform. Once the result is verified, it immediately affects both players’ SPINDEX ratings and Confidence Levels.
The result is a more accessible form of rated competition that can take place wherever players have an opponent and a table.
Rated Competition Beyond Tournaments
Historically, meaningful rating changes were often limited to sanctioned tournaments, club leagues, or other organized competitions. For players living in areas with fewer events, this could make it difficult to build an accurate rating or demonstrate improvement over time.
SPINDEX Challenge Matches remove that barrier by recognizing verified head-to-head results between players worldwide.
Players no longer need to wait for the next formal event to compete in a match that counts. Challenge Matches make it possible to create meaningful competition during practice sessions, open play, club nights, or independently arranged matches.
How SPINDEX Challenges Work
Players can create a Challenge through the SPINDEX app and invite another player to compete.
After the match:
- The result is submitted through SPINDEX.
- The opposing player verifies the result.
- The match is added to both players’ records.
- Ratings and Confidence Levels update based on the verified outcome.
This verification process helps preserve the integrity of the rating system while making independent match play easier to recognize.
Confidence Level also remains an important part of the system. It reflects how much verified match data supports a player’s current rating. As players complete more rated matches, SPINDEX gains more information about their playing level and can represent their ability with greater confidence.
Meaningful Matches, Anywhere
“This is a major step forward for how table tennis is played and tracked,” said Mimi Bosika, SVP, Competition at Major League Table Tennis. “SPINDEX was built to give every player a rating they can trust. Now, with the mobile app, we’re making it effortless to compete, log matches, and see progress in real time. You don’t need a tournament. You just need a table.”
By expanding rated competition beyond formal events, SPINDEX gives more players the opportunity to stay active, find meaningful opponents, and build a rating supported by verified results.
The feature is particularly valuable for players in regions with limited tournament access, but it also gives active club and league players another way to compete between scheduled events.
